A man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit with a stolen vehicle in Ventura County.
The suspect was identified as Ruben Garibay, 21, of Port Hueneme, according to the Port Hueneme Police Department.
On March 23, officers spotted a stolen Hyundai Elantra near Ventura Road and Pleasant Valley Road at around 6:18 a.m.
When police tried to stop the car, Garibay allegedly refused to yield, leading officers on a pursuit.
As Garibay drove into the Oxnard area, he suddenly jumped out of the moving car in an attempt to flee, authorities said. He landed on the road and began running away.
After searching the area, police eventually found him hiding in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.
He was arrested for auto theft, evading the police in a vehicle, and driving on a suspended license. He was also on probation for auto theft at the time of his arrest, police said.
The moving vehicle that was ditched came to a safe stop after rolling into a street curb.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Sergeant Jesus Chavez at 805-986-6615 or email jchavez@cityofporthueneme.org.
