Man accused of attempted murder following Midtown stabbing

A 34-year-old man is facing attempted murder and assault charges after a Midtown stabbing Thursday night left a victim with life-threatening injuries.

Toronto Police said officers responded to a call for a stabbing at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the Bathurst St. and St. Clair Ave. W. area.

According to police, a man approached the victim from behind. The man then stabbed the victim and fled the scene eastbound on St. Clair Ave.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, cops said.

On Saturday, Alexander Mikheil Jaenicke Maider, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom Sunday morning.
