The man was arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage. Following his arrest, Merseyside Police said the man suffered a medical episode and was taken straight to hospital for treatment. The 37-year-old man died early this afternoon.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police contact prior to the man being taken to hospital.
