A “male came off a scrambler bike” during what eye-witnesses described as a police chase on a main Liverpool road on Sunday. The incident, which happened at the roundabout below the Queens Drive flyover on Rice Lane, led to the road being closed by police on Sunday (March 9), with several points of the roundabout behind a large cordon.

Merseyside Police had not confirmed the nature of the incident by the time the ECHO went to print. However, an eye witness who contacted the ECHO claimed: “A young lad has come off a scrambler bike.” The woman, who did not want to be named, said she saw the incident unfold while she was with her children.

Eye witnesses and people at the scene said they believed the incident took place during a police pursuit. At the scene, a woman told the ECHO that she saw emergency services dealing with the aftermath. She said: “When I came off the flyover, I saw police, ambulances and fire engines. A lad ended up underneath the flyover, he must have been going some speed.”

Rice Lane was closed by police at the entrance to the roundabout on Sunday evening. A number of entrances and exits to the roundabout itself were closed while officers investigated and several police vehicles were at the scene. A Volvo car and a bike were visible within the cordon. Officers focused their attention on the vehicles and the underpass below.

Traffic and bus services were diverted before the road and roundabout was fully reopened by police at around 6.45pm. It is understood the male was taken to hospital with an ankle injury.
