On the M4, some parts of the motorway will be closed or restricted for certain vehicles
A handful of roads will be closed or restricted this week on the M4. With the summer holidays now in full swing, perhaps many of us are planning our trip with the kids and family.
But if you are hoping to travel on the M4, it is worth bearing in mind that some parts of the motorway will be closed or restricted for certain vehicles. Whatever your plans are, we’ve compiled a list of all the M4 closures that will be in place over the coming week, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.
Here’s the list of closures or restriction on the M4:
- Off the M4 and on the M48 across the border in Gloucestershire, there is a temporary gross weight limit of 7.5 tonnes due to bridge maintenance work on the M48 Severn Bridge in both directions between J2 A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow) and J1 A403 (Aust). This restriction is for lorries only, while buses and coaches can use the bridge as normal. This restriction will be in place until May 27, 2026.
- In Bridgend, two lanes are closed and there will be narrow lanes due to roadworks on M4 in both directions between J37 A4229 (Pyle / Porthcawl) and J38 A48 ( Margam ). The roadworks will be in place until November 30, 2025.
- In Cardiff, one lane is closed due to roadworks on the M4 eastbound from J32 A470 Northern Avenue (Coryton Interchange) to J30 A4232 Pentwyn Link Road (Cardiff Gate). Motorists should expect delays. This closure will be in place until 6am on August 21, 2025. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
