Luuk de Jong has reportedly returning to training with PSV Eindhoven amid speculation over a move to Rangers.

But sources in the Netherlands insists that the U-turn does not mean the Eredivisie-winning captain has committed to the club for next season.

Reports in the Netherlands have suggested that the former Barcelona, Newcastle United and Sevilla frontman would be “open” to the Scottish Premiership side – with Peter Bosz admitting he has spoken to the striker about the Ibrox side amid escalating rumours.

But the 34-year-old is now back at PSV despite the expiry of his contract, and De Telegraaf report the veteran has returned to the club’s De Herdgang training complex to train individually with a coach.

It is claimed De Jong was offered the chance to train with the squad when they returned for pre-season but didn’t want to “raise expectations” over his return.

However, he has taken advantage of the offer and will train away from his former teammates – but it is noted the player has not concluded his decision on his next club as he weighs up the offers on the table.

With Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers facing an uncertain future, the likes of De Jong and Jamie Vardy have been touted as big-name arrivals.

Former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski has joined the list of strikers on the Rangers’ rumour mill this week with reports in North Macedonia claiming a move was on the cards.

The 26-year-old endured a tough debut season with Girona scoring just four times in 21 matches in all competitions – and the club are open to a sale.

But sporting director Quique Carcel has warned suitors they won’t let the player leave for less than the £6.8million they paid the Dons for his signature – amid fears over La Liga’s spending rules.

He told Ara: “We won’t get rid of a player by losing money, because that will affect the salary cap.”

Sheffield Wednesday attacker Djeidi Gassama is set to become the seventh signing of the summer at Ibrox with a £2.5million deal close.

Gassama hit eight goals in 47 outings last term with just the one assist as the Owls finished 12th in the EFL Championship table.

And English Football League veteran Don Goodman reckons that the exit of the key man sums up the plight of Wednesday this summer.

He told FLW: “It was inevitable that given the situation that Sheffield Wednesday are in that they are going to lose some of their best players, particularly the ones they can gain a fee for.”

“The club’s a mess, finances are a mess and I suppose they need to rake in every penny they can. Unfortunately, it’s having a really negative impact.”
