Lottery winner says numbers chosen by elevator stops

Sylvester Semedo’s bank account ascended to new heights after he won a Massachusetts lottery by playing numbers associated with an elevator.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Semedo won $300,000 by playing the same set of numbers three times on one Mass Cash ticket on June 26.

The Weymouth resident matched the five numbers — 2, 6, 10, 14, 18 — and told lottery officials the significance of the numerals.

“He won his prizes with a set of numbers he regularly plays that represent the only floors his old work building’s elevator used to stop on,” the lottery said in a statement,

The odds of matching all five numbers are 1 in 324,632.

Semedo said he plans to spend part of his winnings by attending a Boston Red Sox game on the road.

The store that sold the winning ticket, Jenny’s Market in Weymouth, will get a $3,000 bonus.
