Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the Borussia Dortmund youngster Jamie Gittens and could pursue a move in the summer
Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens. The 20-year-old is the latest star to emerge in the Bundesliga after swapping Manchester City for Dortmund, aged 16.
Several teams are interested in Gittens’ signature and reports claim the Reds have been monitoring his situation with a view to making a move for the youngster at the end of the season. Besides Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are also in the mix.
German outlet BILD suggest that Dortmund are ‘planning for the worst’ and will have to sell a star player. The winger is claimed to be on that list of potential sales if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

As it stands, Dortmund are currently 11th in the Bundesliga and four points off sixth-place which currently offers a Europa Conference League place. Germany are fourth in the UEFA coefficient standings so they will not be guaranteed an extra European spot.
Meanwhile, England are leading the table, meaning that they would take the extra qualifying spot. Finishing top of the Champions League table has also boosted that.
Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer has previously highlighted the importance of Gittens and how the club plans to keep hold of him. “He is very important, right now he is one of our players who makes the difference,” Cramer told Anfield Watch.
“Even if we had some problems on the pitch, he can be a difference-maker through his individual quality. He had some bad luck with injuries, but he’s really focused. He’s a Dortmund guy. When we convinced him to sign, we had a good example from former players like [Jude] Bellingham and [Jadon] Sancho, but not only the English ones, but others.
“The young ones know they will receive minutes on the pitch and that Dortmund is an excellent platform. It is our ambition to keep these players with us for as long as possible. It’s not our aim to make as much money as quickly as possible. He is a player who makes a difference. But he’s also a player who can be a good example to other young players that Dortmund gives you the time to develop yourself and educate yourself even if you are struggling with injuries.
“We are very, very happy to have him here. Happy with how he’s playing, how he’s behaving. He’s so humble. He’s a perfect Dortmund guy.”
