A 19-year-old law student was found dead at the hostel in Fergusson College in Pune on Friday morning. Police identified the deceased as Bhushan Domane, native of Wardha district in Maharashtra.
Senior police inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan police station said a probe was underway to confirm whether this was a case of suicide or medicine overdose.
“The deceased was a first year LLB student. He was found unconscious in his hostel room at the college campus. We found medicine strips and some prescription at the spot. A probe is on. Medical and postmortem reports are awaited,” said Nimbalkar.
Police said Bhushan was a student of Deccan Education Society’s Navalmal Firodia Law College, located in Fergusson College in Shivajinagar. Police said exams are on at the law college. Before the exams, a friend of Bhushan knocked on his hostel room’s door around 10 am, but there was no response. So he informed the hostel authorities.
The hostel staff opened the room and found Bhushan unconscious, following which the police were informed immediately. The student was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. The body was then taken to Sassoon general hospital for postmortem, the police said.
As per legal procedure, an accidental death report was lodged at Deccan police station and an investigation into the student’s death was initiated. The police have also informed the family members of the deceased student. The police said they were still probing whether he was under stress due to the ongoing examinations, his studies or any other reason.
