Islamabad United delivered a ruthless performance with bat and ball to storm into the PSL X playoffs as the second-best team on the table, overpowering Karachi Kings by 79 runs in a high-octane clash to overtake them in the latest points table.
Needing a convincing win to leapfrog their opponents, United managed to pull off a win when they needed it the most, ending their streak of four consecutive losses as well. The result not only reaffirmed United’s credentials as title contenders but also reshuffled the final standings, pushing Karachi to third place on net run rate.
Batting first at full throttle, United piled up a mammoth 251/5 in their 20 overs—the fourth-highest total in PSL history—thanks to blistering half-centuries from Alex Hales (88 off 35) and Sahibzada Farhan (73 off 41). Shadab Khan added late fireworks with a 19-ball 42, ensuring Karachi were buried under a mountain of runs.
In reply, Karachi’s chase never truly took flight. Despite a promising start from David Warner (43) and Tim Seifert (26), they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shadab led from the front with the ball too, claiming 4 for 45, while Salman Irshad chipped in with 3 for 28 to bundle the Kings out for 172 in 18.2 overs.

United’s win also gives us a clear picture of the playoffs. Quetta Gladiators will face Islamabad United in the qualifier on May 21 in Lahore, before Karachi Kings take on Lahore Qalandars in the first eliminator the following night.
Eliminator 2 will be played on May 23, with the final taking place on May 25.
