Kendrick Lamar fans are saying UK concert-goers should brace themselves for a brilliant show from the ‘Not Like Us’ hitmaker and fellow artist SZA, who will join the rapper on the tour
Fans of Kendrick Lamar are saying those headed to dates on his UK tour must prepare for one thing. The chart-topping artist who performed at the Super Bowl LIX earlier this year is taking his tour, also featuring SZA, around the UK in July. The ‘Not Like Us’ hitmaker will perform in Cardiff, as well as London and Birmingham.
But listeners are letting fans know they need to prepare for the show as it goes beyond expectations. The tour will see Lamar perform for the first time since his Super Bowl LIX performance, his only show this year to date.
A post to the r/KendrickLamar subreddit reads: “Kendrick fans who went to the Grand National tour with SZA how was it? I’ve never been since I didn’t have enough money so I figure I would ask.” Those attending the show can expect a lengthy set from both artists.
Other users have confirmed the shows are so good they may feel they “went to heaven” after watching. One user praised the shows, writing: “Clearly a meteor actually hit SoFi stadium, took out everyone and we all went to heaven that night. No complaints here.”
Another added: “Atlanta show was dope, good energy with the crowd, lots of storytelling, and Kendrick was flawless. SZA didn’t sound real either, it was the perfect mix.”
Those who have attended the US leg of the tour told fans in the UK to prepare for a stellar showcase of Kendrick and SZA at their very best. Praise for the shows continued, with those who had not heard any of SZA’s music also delighted by the star.
One wrote: “It was good. I have never listened to any SZA but she is a great performer. Unfortunately that did not stop me from getting a little bored of her sets to be honest, which isn’t her fault, her set is super high effort. I’m just not a SZA fan.”
Another added: “I went to the Seattle show and despite the rain the energy was amazing. It’s a stadium show so the entire atmosphere and scale of the show is different.
“For me it was the best live rap show I’ve seen and I’ve been going to concerts since 2005. I saw him at the Damn tour with Travis Scott which was great but this was far better in my opinion.”
A third user wrote: “Just got back from the SF show tonight. Kendrick was fire. He seemed a little tired but still delivered.
“The vibe was strong. Could have done with less SZA (messy relationship songs have never done it for me) but it was a great show overall.”
However, some detractors suggested SZA was the weak link in the set, others have said her work, along with Kendrick’s make the show a must-see. One user added: “One of the best shows ever because the visuals were just unbelievable.”
Another shared: “SZA better visuals and production than Kendrick. Seems to acknowledge the crowd a little bit more”.
