The Karnataka Cabinet moved a resolution Thursday, condemning the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of two residents of the state. It also approved projects worth Rs 3,647.42 crore during the meeting held at Male Mahadeshwara (MM) Hills in Chamarajanagar district.
The resolution adopted by the state government strongly condemned the attack on civilians at Pahalgam. Expressing condolences to the victims of the attack, it said that such attacks should be considered as acts against humanity.
“The entire country should stand united and work hard to eradicate all forms of terrorism. It was decided to demand an effective and proper investigation into the failures that led to this incident. Our government urges the Central Government, on behalf of the people of the state, to take precautions to prevent any such incidents from happening in the future,” the resolution reads.
This was the second division-wise Cabinet meeting held under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The first divisional Cabinet meeting was held in September last year at Kalaburagi.
The meeting in the Chamarajanagar district is significant due to the superstition that a chief minister visiting the district would soon lose power. Siddaramaiah, however, during his first and second terms as chief minister, visited the district multiple times.
The key decisions of the meeting included Rs 1,787 crore for irrigation in the agrarian districts of Mysuru region, allocation of Rs 210 crore to prevent man-animal conflict along two national parks in the region, and Rs 300 crore to develop tourism.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal to provide land at Ilavala in Mysuru taluk for the construction of an international stadium. Badanavalu, famous for its Khadi and Gramodyog Centre, will be developed at a cost of Rs 40 crore, according to the proceedings of the meeting shared by the Chief Minister’s Office. Rs 101 crore was sanctioned by the Cabinet for the extension of the runway at Mysuru airport.
