More recently, he has also been gaining even more national recognition for embracing unconventional roles that most superstars would typically shy away from.

Now, the Malayalam megastar appears ready to take on yet another intriguing and distinctive role in director Jithin K Jose’s Kalamkaval, which carries the tagline “the venom beneath.” The film’s makers recently unveiled its first-look poster, instantly sparking curiosity among audiences. The poster shows Mammootty in a tense moment, locked in a fight with an unseen opponent. The character’s effortless aggression and raw physicality are evident in his body language, expressions and the half-bitten cigarette dangling from his mouth — suggesting he jumped into the scuffle without a moment’s hesitation.

Reports indicate that Mammootty plays a grey-shaded character in the film, which stars Vinayakan in the lead. “Wait for another ‘never-seen-before’ Mammootty to be unleashed soon,” the makers teased while sharing the poster on social media. On the occasion, they also released another poster featuring Vinayakan, depicted through a striking silhouette shot and introduced as “the other side of Kalamkaval”.

Produced by Mammootty Kampany, Kalamkaval is written by director Jithin K Jose in collaboration with Jishnu Sreekumar. The film’s music is composed by Mujeeb Majeed, with cinematography by Faisal Ali and editing by Praveen Prabhakar.

The Malayalam megastar was last seen in the mystery comedy Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, which marked Tamil director Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Malayalam debut. Also starring Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhatt, Viji Venkatesh and Vineeth in key roles, the movie was met with poor reviews and ultimately underperformed at the box office.
