Julie Bon joins AlixPartners economics advisory wing

Global advisory firm AlixPartners has beefed up its economic insight offering with a new senior advisor. Former Competition and Markets Authority expert Julie Bon brings two decades of knowhow to the firm.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is a non-ministerial government department, which works to support entrepreneurs, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. In September 2024, the UK antitrust enforcer announced that Julie Bon would depart, after over 20 years at the agency.

During her time with the CMA, where she was latterly deputy chief economist, Bon was responsible for the quality of the economic analysis across the full range of the CMA’s casework. In particular, she was responsible for the delivery of economic input across the CMA’s Phase 1 merger portfolio, as well as leading the economic analysis on many novel and high impact Phase 2 mergers and market studies and investigations.

This work equipped Bon with an extensive understanding of UK merger control and competition policy. In her advisory role at AlixPartners, which often undertakes work in corporate turnaround and deals advisory, Bon will work closely with the firm’s case teams to support clients, with a particular focus on mergers and competition investigations.

Speaking on the appointment, Matt Hunt, global co-leader of economics consulting at AlixPartners, commented, “Julie’s extensive knowledge of competition policy and authority decision making combined with her first-class economics expertise will further strengthen our team’s capabilities. We are thrilled to welcome Julie to the firm and are excited that our clients will benefit from her unique blend of hands-on experience and strategic thinking.”
