National accountancy and business advisory firm Johnston Carmichael has made two senior promotions in its London office, appointing Si Mathavan to the role of London Office Head, and elevating Simon Cavell to Consulting Director.
Founded in the North East of Scotland almost 90 years ago, Johnston Carmichael today has almost 1,000 staff across offices nationwide.
The firm’s London office, which launched in 2019 and since then has seen significant expansion, is now being led by Si Mathavan, who has been with Johnston Carmichael since early 2022. He has over 20 years of experience in internal audit, process and controls, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and transaction advisory, and has supported clients of various sizes in the technology, media, not-for-profit, financial services and energy sectors.
As London Office Head, Mathavan will lead the firm’s strategy and operations in the capital, deepening connections across the market (especially amongst mid-market firms) and supporting growth across consulting, audit, and advisory disciplines.
Prior to joining Johnston Carmichael, Mathavan worked for EY, BDO, Grant Thornton and Forvis Mazars.
Simon Cavell meanwhile has nearly 30 years of senior experience in financial services. He has held executive roles spanning customer experience, operations, change, product management, strategy, risk, and HR. His track record includes launching retail funding operations overseas, transforming customer service functions, and developing strategic propositions for large financial institutions.
Before joining Johnston Carmichael in 2022, Cavell spent a decade at Yorkshire Building Society, and worked at Capita and Northern Rock.
In his role as Consulting Director, he leads the firm’s consulting arm in London, which serves clients across many sectors but specialises mainly in retail banks and building societies. Key areas of focus include customer strategy, operations, transformation, and risk.
Commenting on the appointments, Lynne Walker, CEO of Johnston Carmichael said: “Si and Simon have shown great leadership since joining the firm, delivering positive impact for our clients and colleagues, and growing our community in London. Both have boosted our strong culture, and I look forward to seeing them shape the next chapter of our success in the capital.”
Mark Houston, Senior Partner and Chair of Johnston Carmichael, added: ““Si and Simon have made a fantastic contribution to the firm in recent years.”
