Position Overview: We are seeking a creative and organised Grants & Reports Writer to lead and execute proposals and funder reports that support our organization’s mission – to make Canada the best governed country in the world. In this role, you will develop engaging proposals that solidify funding as well as accurate reports to our generous donors of our projects’ successes. We’re looking for the unique individual who thrives under deadlines and can accurately articulate MLI’s brand, success, programs, and policy work.
This is an entry level fundraising position. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate in a business administration degree/diploma and have motivation to build their fundraising career. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by managing current donors and reporting on our successes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit funding proposals and grant applications – including budgets – in cooperation with program leads;
- Draft and submit project reports for donors, in cooperation with program leads, ensuring that all agreed deliverables are accounted for;
- Work with the Director of Finance to ensure financial reports are prepared and submitted;
- Maintain relationships with our major foundations, corporations, organisations, and associations;
- Track and flag relevant dates for new applications and reports;
- Draft applications for awards and other opportunities for recognition of MLI’s work;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, BBA, or equivalent;
- Experience writing proposals and grants considered an asset;
- Excels in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively;
- Capacity and competency to handle a large volume of work and competing demands/timelines with demonstrated success using organizational and time management skills to ensure project requirements are met;
- Knowledge of task management software, such as monday.com, considered a strong asset;
- Knowledge of customer relationship management software (CRM), such as Zoho or Salesforce, considered a strong asset;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Google Workspace, and other standard office softwares;
- Ability to anticipate the needs of supervisors, and work independently with minimal supervision;
- Manage grant submission timelines and ensure adherence to donor guidelines;
- Maintain consistency in style, and messaging across all documents and reports submitted to donors;
- Professional, friendly, enthusiastic and respectful;
- Occasional, primarily domestic, travel may be required;
- Demonstrates a high level of ownership of tasks, accountability and initiative;
- Results-orientated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a small organization;
- Support the creation of graphic design materials that can help generate leads or donations, such as email campaigns and print materials.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset;
- The Institute is strictly non-partisan; working for MLI is incompatible with active membership in any political party.
The Grants and Reports Writer will report directly to the Manager of Operations. The Macdonald-Laurier Institute offers a pay and benefits package that is competitive with equivalent positions in Ottawa.
