Jamie Carragher has urged his former club to sign a new defender this month after their defensive frailties were exposed in the draw to Nottingham Forest
Murillo was one the standout performers for Nottingham Forest in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at the City Ground. The hosts scored the opening goal inside eight minutes through Chris Wood and Arne Slot’s side responded late in the second half.
Diogo Jota was the hero from the bench but in the end, they could have come away with the three points after recording 17 more attempts on goal than Forest. But multiple key saves from Matz Sels ensured the points would be shared on Trentside.
Forest defender Murillo also played a significant part in keeping the score at a minimum. He made 18 clearances, four tackles and two interceptions and that was enough for Jamie Carragher to vent his frustration.

Taking to X, he wrote: “Liverpool should’ve won tonight, but they continue to create big chances even in the games they don’t win but the defensive solidity they had at the start of the season has gone. Always look likely to concede. Buy a defender!!!!”
Well, it appears that his demand was staring him right in the face during the Premier League game. The Reds were previously linked with a move for Murillo in the summer, along with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. The 22-year-old even went as far as addressing which club he would like to join.
He said: “I’d choose Manchester City but it would be more difficult for me to play given the players and quality they have in their squad. There’s City, Arsenal as well, who are fighting for the Premier League title. I wouldn’t discard Liverpool either, it would be a good opportunity for me to show my football in a big club.”
The Brazilian centre-back has been a revelation at the City Ground since his move from Corinthians in August 2023 and has been a big reason why Forest currently sit second in the table. Following Tuesday night’s draw, Forest are five points behind the table-topping Reds, who much to Arne Slot’s annoyance they beat at Anfield in September – Liverpool’s only league defeat this season.
