The Liverpool FC legend has reassured fans he’s on the mend after his departure from last night’s coverage
Jamie Carragher has reassured fans after he left CBS’ Champions League sports coverage last night due to illness. The Liverpool FC legend was analysing Wednesday night’s Champions League games alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.
However, host Kate Scott confirmed the 47-year-old had departed the studio early at half time after he had taken ill. Carragher has taken to his Instagram account last night and confirmed he was now recovering.
He shared a snap of the panel in his absence alongside the caption: “Feeling better now & just checking if the team can cope without me.”
Carragher was absent on Tuesday’s episode of the popular US football show as he attended Liverpool’s match against PSG at Anfield. He was pictured in the stands as the Reds exited the competition after a penalty shootout.
Host Kate teased Carragher at the start of yesterday’s broadcast. She said: “Tonight, just like the story of the prodigal son. A bit too big for his boots, he thought that life would be sweeter on the road, he thought he’d be away, enjoying drinking and revelling.
“But he took a major loss and realised his foolishness and he came home humbled, hoping that he would be accepted. Jamie Carragher, back in the chair.”
Carragher was absent from a dramatic night of Champions League football. Real Madrid defeated their local rivals Atletico Madrid in a penalty after VAR controversy.
The game went to a penalty shootout after Atletico won 1 – 0 to make the tie 2 – 2 on aggregate. Julian Alvarez had fired his penalty, Atletico’s second, into the roof of the net but then saw it disallowed by VAR after slipping during his run-up and touching the ball twice.
Former Real Madrid player Marcos Llorente slammed his spot-kick against the crossbar before Antonio Rudiger stepped up and squeezed the decisive spot-kick past Jan Oblak despite the goalkeeper going the right way and getting a hand to it.
Real Madrid set up a a quarter final clash with Arsenal after the Gunners booked their place in the next round with a 9 -3 aggregate win over PSV. Aston Villa also progressed to the next stage as they defeated Club Brugge 6 – 1 on aggregate.
Unai Emery’s side will not take on PSG, who progressed after their penalty shootout win at Anfield on Tuesday. The other games in the last eight will see Bayern Munich take on Inter Milan and Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund.
