**WARNING SPOILERS FOR SEASON 5 EPISODE 4**
The final instalment of the series, ‘Find Them Dead’, concluded with a jaw-dropping twist when John Simm’s character, Roy Grace paid a visit to the fallen police chief, Cassian Pewe behind bars, leading to another sinister revelation.
Cassius disclosed the grim details of how Benchdale took Sandy’s life over her unsettled debt, staging her demise as a suicide and suggesting that her prior car accident in Germany might have been an earlier assassination attempt.
“Sandy’s debt still isn’t paid,” Pewe revealed. “They know she has a son – Bruno. I hear they’re out for blood, an eye for an eye!”.
It appears John Simm’s character is set to face some formidable adversaries in the upcoming sixth series next year!
The actor teased the new season whilst promoting the most recent. He said about the popularity of the show: “It’s so difficult to start from scratch with a detective show, it really has to catch fire and that only happens after two or three series. We’re about to start series six so clearly it has struck a chord with a lot of people.”
He also added that the season five finale’s cliff hanger will get picked up in the next season. John said: “Nothing is ever tied up – just when you think it’s all done it’s not, there’s plenty more instore. This series ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger too –there’s a huge storyline that we will pick up in series six and the stakes get higher every season.”
ITV’s Grace is an adaptation based on the popular book series by Peter James, who has sold over 21 million copies of the Grace novels, which have been sold to date with translations into 38 different languages.
Peter said: “When the first episode of Grace aired in 2021, it was a dream come true. It is both heartening and astounding to me that we’re already at series five!
“The continued success of Grace is a testament to the outstanding cast headed by John Simm, and crew and, equally importantly, the fans, who have loved and devoted their time to these characters both on the page and now the screen.
“It is also a testament to just how faithfully ITV have adhered to both the characters and stories in the novels.”
No storylines have been confirmed yet for season six of the series, but the author has written plenty of books and is still writing more with a new one set to be released later this year.
John Simm will return as Roy Grace in season six and it’s expected that Richie Campbell and Zoe Tapper will return as his colleague, DI Glenn Branson and fiancé, Cleo Morey.
