Corrie fans said “we’re not stupid” after watching the latest episode of the ITV show
Coronation Street fans are convinced they know what will happen to Lou in coming weeks. The character has had turbulent few months since she arrived on the cobbles with her husband Mick Michaelis. The new couple were quick to ruffle feathers, especially with the harsh way Mick treated Maria’s son Liam.
With Mick now in prison for murdering Craig Tinker, Maria was horrified to see Lou try to weave her way into Gary’s life, tearing the couple further and further apart. Many soap fans thought Lou and Gary would have an affair, and it seemed they were almost right when Lou kissed Gary.
But their close relationship was an immediate red flag for Maria, and she is currently oblivious to the fact her husband was in danger and put his life on the line.
The night of the unwanted kiss was the last time viewers saw Gary, as he fled the street to stay with his mum and get some space from the women in his life. But it has now been confirmed that Gary is actually fighting for his life in hospital.
In the latest episode of the ITV soap, viewers saw Maria’s anxieties continue to grow, wondering where her husband could be. She reported him missing to the police, while Kit went to check on a patient at the hospital to confirm his identity.
Meanwhile, Gary was being treated by nurses just next door. But when he was being referred to as “Chesney”, fans were even more confused. Taking to social media during the episode, one fan asked: “Did Gary somehow have Chesney’s ID on him? Is Chesney missing too?”
A second said: “Chesney? I know that Gary’s ginger but apart from that they look nothing alike!” A third agreed: “It’s all making sense what happened #Corrie but why are they saying Chesney?”
Meanwhile, a mysterious woman was sat at Gary’s bedside. It was soon revealed to be Lou, pretending to be his “wife”. However, the nurse wasn’t calling Lou by her real name, and viewers soon realised she was pretending to be “Gemma”, with her husband “Chesney” fighting for his life.
With viewers patiently waiting to find out how Gary ended up in a coma, a dramatic flashback saw Lou hit Gary with a pipe, leaving him unconscious.
But Corrie fans took to social media after they found out that Lou is the culprit in the violent act. One viewer said: “I knew it was Lou.” A second added: “Wow it’s Lou, who saw that coming? (Everyone).” A third agreed: “It was obviously always Lou. We’re not stupid!”
After the whirlwind of an episode, viewers couldn’t help but notice on some of the unrealistic elements of the storyline. Some suggested that Gary being referred to as Chesney by medical professionals was unrealistic.
On X, one fan said: “So far fetched. The hospital knows him as “Chesney.” None of his tests would match the real ‘Chesney’s’ records.” A second agreed: “What hospital doesn’t have records?! This story is odd.”
Another fan wrote: “It should never have reached Maria reporting Gary missing. The NHS of Weatherfield should’ve had him up, about and home by the end of the day that he was attacked.”
Fans have started to work out what will happen to Lou, as her and her troublemaker husband were only brought in for a short-term storyline on the soap.
One soap fan suggested: “So I’m guessing both Mick and Lou will end up in prison and Sally and Tim will foster the girls and Brody will end up with Bernie / Kit.”
Another said: “I hope Lou goes to prison for what she’s done to Gary.” A third said: “I can see how this storyline ends next week with both Mick and Lou going to prison.”
A fourth questioned the storyline: “And police didn’t investigate the coma person… Take a statement from his alleged Mrs as to how the accident occurred as well as the person phoning the ambulance etc.”
Coronation Street continues on Friday at 8pm on ITV1
