IT Ministry Commences Rightsizing, Abolishes NITB

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoIT&T) has initiated a comprehensive rightsizing exercise on the recommendations of the rightsizing committee.

According to the official document seen by ProPakistani, MoIT&T has abolished 17 posts, with an additional 7 positions declared as “dying cadres.” These positions will not be replaced upon the retirement of the incumbents in 2026, thus ensuring annual savings of approximately Rs. 25 million. Meanwhile, the officer-to-staff ratio has been adjusted from 1.25 to 1.20.

The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will undergo a restructuring process to reduce its structure by 50 percent. The ministry has referred the matter to P3A for further decisions, and a consultant has been hired to finalize the rightsizing plan.

Ignite (National Technology Fund) will be retained, but its operations are subject to a third-party review.

A performance review of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) will be conducted, with the report expected to be presented to the Prime Minister within three months. The overlap between the functions of PSEB and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will also be evaluated.

The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) is set to introduce a finalized draft bill to the National Assembly after consultations with stakeholders. Efforts are underway to accelerate its legislative process to ensure the early passage of the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2024.

Virtual University has been transferred under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. Meanwhile, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) will be wound up.
