Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon issued a stern warning to Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militants to cease missile attacks on Israel, cautioning that they risk the same “miserable fate” as Hamas and Hezbollah. He stressed on Israel’s capability to strike any target in the Middle East, including within Iran, and declared that attacks by Iranian proxies would not be tolerated.
Danon told the UN Security Council, “This is not a threat. It is a promise. You will share the same fate as those who sought to destroy us.” His comments follow recent Houthi drone and missile attacks launched in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Israeli strikes on multiple Houthi-linked targets in Yemen last week prompted sharp criticism from Russia, which condemned the attacks as disproportionate. However, Israel maintains its right to defend its citizens and infrastructure.
The UN expressed grave concerns about escalating violence and its potential impact on regional stability, with Assistant UN Secretary-General Khaled Khiari calling for an immediate halt to hostilities. He warned that further escalation could have dire humanitarian and political consequences for millions across the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed continued action, stating last week that Israel is “just getting started.”
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization reported injuries to its staff during an Israeli strike on Yemen’s Sanaa airport.
