Fortnite fans are preparing themselves for a new update, which will include the arrival of one of the world’s biggest pop sensations. Today’s update (April 8) is the second in quick succession after Epic Games commissioned updated 34.21 on April 1.

That change brought some major Mortal Kombat changes on the island and in players’ quest logs. And Fortnite being down today isn’t an extended April Fool’s gag, but the chance for yet more changes.

Fortnite has been teasing the introduction of Sabrina Carpenter as the Fortnite Festival headliner over the last few days. And with update 34.30 now happening, lots of Sabrina skins are expected on the main island.

Early patch notes revealed that Hammer Fall, the new Ballistic map, is coming – so even if Espresso isn’t your jam, there’s plenty for all gamers to enjoy.

However, as with any Fortnite update, you can’t get your hands on it right away – as there is a bit of downtime while the update is ongoing.

But when did the update start and how long will Fortnite be down? Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite being down and the latest update.

When is Fortnite down?

Fortnite downtime began at 9am BST today, Tuesday, April 8 . That is 1am PDT or 4am EDT for gamers across the Atlantic.

This was revealed by @FortniteStatus on X, formerly Twitter, and continues the recent trend of the game going down at a similar time, since the beginning of Chapter 6.

Players are booted out of matchmaking 30 minutes before the downtime starts. There has been no official confirmation of the length of the downtime, but it is expected to last around 90 minutes to two hours , The Mirror reports.

Downtime for updates 34.20 and 34.21 were one hour and 38 minutes and two-and-a-half hours, respectively – although the later ran over by an hour.

Based on that, we can expect Fortnite servers to be back up by around 10.30am or 11am BST today . That is 2.30/3am PDT and 5.30/6am EDT.

What’s new in Fortnite update 34.30?

Numerous leaks have suggested what gamers could be in for once Fortnite is back up and running.

While much of it is common knowledge, it is still an exciting time for Fortnite fans – especially those who have been saying Please Please Please get Sabrina on board.

Here’s what we can expect on the other side of the Fortnite downtime, as we investigated when we took a look at the Fortnite update 34.30 early patch notes:

  • A new Fortnite Festival headliner, Sabrina Carpenter , with a new Music Pass
  • A new Ballistic map , untextured and awaiting a lick of paint as players test it, called Hammer Fall
  • A Ranked reset for Ballistic
  • A new Adventure Time collaboration , featuring four outfits
  • The potential arrival of a new SMG / Dynamite combo weapon to challenge the Pump & Dump

It is also thought that the new update will come with some new leaks about the game’s next mainline season, which is rumoured at this stage to be focused on Star Wars.

Thankfully, either way, we won’t be waiting very long for the lid to be lifted on the fresh content for the game, after which we can expect the begin of the new Fortnite Festival season, and the start of a new gameplay experience for Ballistic fans.

It’s going to be a big deal, especially for you pop girlies. And for us pop girlies, if we’re being honest.
