Is 11A on a Ryanair flight the worst airline seat in the world? Find out why flyers take to social media to warn others about booking the dreaded berth

Is 11A on a Ryanair flight the worst airline seat in the world? Find out why flyers take to social media to warn others about booking the dreaded berth

‘A dreadful seat that’s a disgrace to the aviation industry.’

That’s how I described window seat 30F on a Ryanair flight from Belfast International to London Stansted during a mystery shopper test.

But it turns out that there is an even worse Ryanair seat, and social media users have been posting about it as a warning to other flyers.

Apparently, 11A is the one to avoid – because it’s a ‘window seat’ without an actual window.

One travel blogger, whose Instagram handle is @travelsofchloe, filmed a video of herself in the seat giving a sarcastic thumbs up to the camera.

Another user, @photosbysel, sarcastically subtitled a video of the berth as ‘Ryanair’s luckiest seat’.

Sarcasm was also deployed by user @thebucketlist85, who described flying in Ryanair’s 11A as an ‘honour’.

Comments underneath their video of their 11A flight included ‘I was crying when I had that seat before’, ‘I would be gutted’ and ‘I’d literally fall to my knees and sob’.

And one user called getting seat 11A ‘the absolute worst experience’.

So, is this berth on Ryanair the worst plane seat in the world?

It’s arguably a contender. After all, it’s a very poor seat on an airline that’s constantly derided, and not just on social media and by online travel journalists – it came second from last in a 2023 Which? ranking of the best and worst short-haul airlines operating in the UK and bottom in the 2022 table.

But Ryanair could reasonably point to its impressive ranking as seventh-best low-cost airline in the world in the recent airlineratings.com awards as a counterargument – and to the fact that most airlines feature a window-less window seat. Even the very best, such as Qatar Airways.

Tempted to post about a windowless Ryanair seat?

Just be ready for a Twitter put-down from the airline, which likes to remind customers that it ‘sells seats, not windows’.
