Intimate partner violence reports up nine per cent in first half of 2025, Ottawa police say

The Ottawa police saw an increase of nine per cent in intimate partner violence reports in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.

In January, the Ottawa Police Service announced it would release annual and semi-annual statistics on intimate partner violence (IPV) in its “continued commitment to bring awareness to the increased rates of violence against women in our city.”

The data from the first semi-annual report was released Monday. The results include all IPV incidents, with all victims, both male and female, represented.

Demographics per gender: 80.6 per cent identified as female and 18.6 per cent identified as male.

Demographics per age group: 4.8 per cent were under 18 years old; 29.3 per cent were between the ages of 18 and 29; 50 per cent were between the ages of 30 and 45; 12.4 per cent were between the ages of 46 and 60; and 3.4 per cent were over the age of 60.

Police said the most prevalent violations in the first half of 2025 were: assault-partner; breaches (all); harass communication-partner; assault with a weapon or CBH Level 2; and threats uttered to person-partner.
