IMA state president, 3 other doctors booked as woman dies after delivery | Lucknow News

An FIR has been registered against the Indian Medical Association (IMA)’s Uttar Pradesh chapter president and three other doctors over the death of a woman after childbirth at a nursing home in Shahjahanpur district.

The family of the woman, Charu Chaddha, alleged she died due to “gross negligence” by doctors who failed to provide proper medical care after the delivery.

The case was registered under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on the complaint of Mukesh Ahuja, the deceased’s father, against Dr PK Agarwal (66), the IMA’s state president, Dr Deepa Saxena, Dr Pathak and one more doctor.

Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi said a panel of doctors was conducting a post-mortem on the woman’s body and further action will be taken based on the autopsy report.

According to the police, the complainant said Charu had been under the care of Dr Deepa Saxena at a nursing home for the past nine months.

In the early hours of Sunday, she went into labour and underwent a cesarean section, giving birth to a healthy baby girl, it was claimed. Then she was shifted to a private ward despite her unstable condition after the delivery, the family alleged. Dr Saxena, however, showed no serious concern and failed to take appropriate action, they said.

When her condition worsened, she was eventually moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator by other doctors, including Dr Agarwal, they further said. Later when Charu passed away, Dr Saxena got her transported in an ambulance to a hospital owned by Dr Agarwal, they said.

When contacted, Dr PK Agarwal said the complainant falsely implicated him in the case by making baseless allegations.

“In fact, it was the woman’s family who brought her to our hospital,” he said.

The FIR mentions that the woman had already died before being taken to the second hospital, he pointed out. “I visited the other hospital after receiving a call from there,” he claimed.
