An illegal migrant has been charged with murdering his missing girlfriend after her body was found buried in woods in Maryland, authorities said.
Keycy Robinson Alexis Barrera-Rosa, 23, was arrested after investigators discovered Lesbia Mileth Ramirez Guerra’s remains dumped deep within the Cedarville State Forest on April 17, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Barrera-Rosa, a Guatemalan national, had reported his girlfriend missing on April 2, alleging that she had vanished two days earlier from the home in Waldorf where they lived with her kids, authorities said.
A review of “digital evidence” subsequently led detectives to the wooded area where the mom’s body was found buried near powerlines.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Barrera-Rosa for her murder, as well as his uncle, Rolvin Eduardo Bererra Bererra, 37, for accessory after the fact of murder.
The uncle told investigators that he had helped bury the body, according to Southern Maryland News.
The accused killer was eventually nabbed by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is being held at the Farmville Detention Center in Virginia as he awaits extradition back to Maryland, the feds said Tuesday.
His uncle is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.
“The arrest of these two individuals marks a significant step towards justice,” ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Vernon Liggins said in a statement.
“This heinous crime not only devastated a community but also reinforced the urgent need to prioritize public safety by identifying, arresting, and removing egregious illegal aliens who threaten our neighborhoods.”
The pair were both first apprehended by Border Patrol in April 2019 after they crossed illegally into the US near El Paso, Texas, according to ICE officials.
They were both given notices to appear at a later before a federal immigration judge.
