A knife-wielding thug on heroin repeatedly demanded money from his mother before telling her: “If you weren’t my mum, I would have killed you.” Muhammed Ahmed, 34, had a history of making unwanted visits to his parent.

On May 2 last year, he turned up at her home and demanded cash. She gave him £50 and he left. But he returned in the early hours. He confronted her and made further demands. She refused, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

“The defendant then grabbed a six inch kitchen knife and took it up to his mother’s bedroom,” prosecutor Nick Ross said. “Now in the bedroom he made stabbing motions towards the wall and other furnishings.”

The curtains were slashed during the incident. Ahmed’s mum told him “If you are here to kill me, then kill me.”

He replied: “If you weren’t my mother, I would have killed you.” His brother then intervened. Ahmed told him: “If you call the police… I will kill you.”

Officers attended and he was arrested. The court heard he was testing positive for heroin at the time. In a statement, the woman said she was ‘upset and scared’ and ‘felt pain in her heart’.

“I do not want him to come back to my house, I am worried about my safety,” she added. Mitigating, David Bruce said his client has been drug-free since the incident, adding that he was ‘anxious’ to tackle his addiction.

Jailing Ahmed, Recorder Jennifer Cleeve said: “This must have been an absolutely terrifying incident for your mother and extremely saddening that one of her sons could do this. You caused your own mother, who raised you, to be terrified of you in her own home.”

Ahmed, of Broome Street, Oldham, was jailed for 21 months after pleading guilty to threatening a person with a knife in a private place. He was also banned from contacting his mun under the terms of a restraining order for seven years.
