A newly released budget car accessory from Kmart is already being hailed as a must have for road trips.
Kmart Australia have just launched a Car Chip and Dip Holder, $5 – and it falls firmly into the category of ‘items that you never knew you needed in your life’.
Ideal for those cheeky drive-thru runs to grab hot chips and dipping sauce, this new gadget enables drivers to ‘enjoy snacks on the go’.
The uniquely designed snack holder slots neatly inside an in-car cup holder, enabling drivers to have their chips and sauce within arm’s reach, without the need to awkwardly attempt to eat – and spill- food out of a paper bag.
The car gadget features a sturdy cylinder base topped by a wider rectangular shaped open container, which is the perfect size to hold a medium or large packet of fries.
Attached to the front of the gadget is a small and shallow rectangular shaped container, which neatly holds a takeaway dipping sauce.
A demonstration picture is featured on the product packaging, showcasing the snack holder in-use with takeaway chips and sauce, like the ones you’d typically get at Maccas.
In the picture, a large packet of fries is seen fitting securely and upright in the bigger back section of the snack holder. An open sauce container is placed comfortably within the front dip holder.

The online product description explains that this ‘clever Chip and Dip holder’ makes it simple to ‘snack in style on the go’.
‘It fits neatly in to keep dips and crisps close at hand,’ the description adds.
It’s also heralded as the ideal car accessory for ‘road trips or drive-in nights’.
The Car Chip and Dip Holder is BPA free and all black in colour, apart from the white and red sauce holder.
Its dimensions are 18cm height, 10cm width and 6.8cm diameter – making it a secure fit for most standard in-car drink holders.
The online product listing confirms the item has only ‘just landed’ in select Kmart stores and is a steal at just five bucks.
However, alongside the product information are a few safety messages regarding use of the snack holder – particularly while driving.
‘Drive attentively and avoid distraction. Eating must not interfere with the driver’s control of the vehicle,’ reads the cautionary information.

The new in-car snack holder comes a year after a previously available Kmart in-car snack item caught shopper’s attention.
Lifestyle content creator Bec Hardgrave shared a TikTok video in July 2024 demonstrating the Anko Car Bottle Bowl which was designed to attach around a Stanley Cup-style water bottle.
The $5 product, which was available last year but is no longer on shelves, looked like a round divided snack plate with a large hole in the middle.
In her video, the fitness and health coach demonstrated mounting the snack holder around her oversized drink bottle before loading it up with popcorn, raspberries and bliss balls.
While the video notched up hundreds of likes, viewers expressed concern about the practical use of the snack holder.
‘One big bump and it’s game over,’ read one reply.

The latest Car Chip and Dip Holder is part of a recent spate of ingenious car accessories launched by the budget mass retailer.
A few months earlier, shoppers were blown away by Kmart’s Pop Up Bin car accessory, which cost only $6.
The space-saving bin is easily installed behind a car’s front seat headrest and is useful for wrappers, cups and other rubbish that would typically end up being discarded on the floor of a car.
The little black bin, which is 19cm x 16cm in size, has received a near clean sweep of five-star online reviews.
‘Game-changer for the car… love this,’ a shopper wrote.
‘Definitely helps keep the car tidy and a nice size that doesn’t take up too much room,’ another added.
‘Works great! I have it sitting in the middle seat [as an] organiser for the kids! Fits small bags and does a great job,’ one more said.
