Huawei suspended from key tech lobby group over corruption scandal – POLITICO

The lobby group, which gathers technology firms and national tech associations to influence European Union decision making, added the company’s access to sensitive working groups was already limited.

The suspension comes after Belgian police raided Huawei’s main lobbying office in Brussels, searched European Parliament offices and raided more than 20 locations in Belgium and Portugal.

Investigators are probing allegations of “active corruption within the European Parliament,” Belgium’s federal prosecutor’s office said last Thursday, later adding that “the alleged bribery is said to have benefited Huawei.”

Four people were charged on Tuesday on counts of corruption and criminal organization. A fifth person was charged with money laundering and released under conditions.
