“We are proud to deepen our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for more young people.”

The College of the Holy Cross announced Wednesday that it will cover full tuition costs for students whose families make $100,000 or less a year.
The change is a significant expansion of the school’s current financial aid program, which has covered tuition for families making $75,000 or less a year since the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The college said its latest move reinforces the school’s commitment to providing opportunity to all “talented students, regardless of their economic resources.”
“One of Holy Cross’s top priorities is to ensure that talented students from all backgrounds can access a Holy Cross education and be supported to flourish on our campus and beyond,” Holy Cross President Vincent D. Rougeau said in a statement on Wednesday. “We are proud to deepen our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for more young people.”
According to the college, it awarded $76.5 million in financial aid for the 2023-2024 school year, with 65 percent of its students receiving need-based grants.
“This financial aid expansion will result in more need-based financial aid, particularly for those students whose families are finding it increasingly difficult to pay the rising costs of a college education,” the school said.
According to the Holy Cross, tuition to attend the Worcester institution for the 2024-2025 school year is $63,350. The total cost increases to $83,320 with the inclusion of housing, other fees, and a meal plan.
The cost to attend college has skyrocketed, with several New England schools announcing this year that the tuition for attending would be more than $90,000 a year for their institutions. According to the U.S. News and World Report, the average cost for private college tuition for the 2024-2025 school year is $43,505, up 2.5 percent from the previous academic year.
