Glasgow’s first independent single malt whisky distillery in more than a century is set to launch a series of tours. For the first time, The Glasgow Distillery is opening its doors to the public with an immersive new tour and tasting experience set to launch this month.

The distillery, located in Hillington, will welcome visitors on select weekdays from Tuesday, July 23, as part of The Glasgow Distillery Experience, a two-hour guided tour priced at £45.

The exclusive experience will give whisky-lovers a behind-the-scenes look at the production of its award-winning spirits, including Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Banditti Club Rum, Makar Gin, and G52 Botanical Vodka, Glasgow Live reports.

Described by its creators as “not your average distillery tour,” the visit begins in the tasting room with a welcome dram and an introduction to how the company brought single malt distilling back to Glasgow after more than 100 years.

Guests will also learn about the ethos behind the brand and sample the Glasgow 1770 Signature Range. Visitors are then guided through the production area, including a stop at the on-site lab where new products are developed.

One of the tour’s highlights is a live coopering demonstration, a rare feature among Scottish distilleries, showcasing the traditional skills of the distillery’s resident cooper and explaining the vital role of cask maintenance in whisky maturation.

The tour also includes a visit to the on-site warehouse, where guests will sample cask strength single malt whisky drawn straight from the cask.

It all ends back in the tasting room with a guided session featuring past and present Glasgow 1770 releases, as well as the chance to try a brand new distillery exclusive bottling, available only to those on the tour.

Two additional limited-edition drams from the Small Batch Series are also included, with guests invited to sample gin, vodka and rum from the wider portfolio if they wish.

Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery, said: “The Glasgow Distillery Experience is not your average distillery tour. We will be welcoming visitors into the heart of our working distillery.

“From a behind-the-scenes look at our innovation lab to showcasing the expertise of our on-site cooper, this experience offers a rare glimpse into every stage of our spirit-making process.

“It’s a chance for guests to meet our team, understand the passion behind what we do, and enjoy our spirits in the place they’re made.

“Visitors will also have access to our new tours-only bottlings, a revolving door of super exclusive cask samples.

“The first of these is a seven-year-old, peated single malt, initially matured in virgin American white oak before an extended secondary maturation within a fresh Oloroso Sherry hogshead.”

Each experience is limited to just eight people at a time to ensure an intimate, hands-on visit.

Tickets and further information are available online via the Glasgow Distillery website.
