Reports have emerged that claim a 49-year-old man had climbed a six-metre-high tree with a rope and threatened to jump.
He was supposedly demanding that his partner, a 53-year-old woman, arrived at the scene.
Suarez and his wife Sofia Balbi were out for a walk along the Solymar promenade on Friday when they saw the incident.
It has been reported that the 37-year-old striker spoke to the man, encouraging him to come down.
A non-governmental organisation that specialises in psychology were on hand and eventually persuaded him out of the tree safely.
Andrea, who is from the group that saved him, told local media: “Suarez, a well-known Uruguayan player, approached us.
“What we did was, during that time of containment, try to talk in an empathetic and close way so that it wouldn’t be so long, even though this man has been there fighting for his life since yesterday.”
The man has now been handed over to a professional care unit.
