The International Cricket Council (ICC)has unveiled its ‘Team of the Tournament’ for the Champions Trophy 2025, featuring 12 standout players from the competition. Out of the eight participating teams, only three nations—India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan—have players in the line-up.

India leads the selections with six players, reflecting their dominance throughout the tournament. New Zealand follows with four players, while Afghanistan has two representatives in the team. Surprisingly, no players from semi-finalists South Africa and Australia made the cut, and host nation Pakistan was also left out entirely.

India’s selections include Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Mohammad Shami, and Varun Chakravarthy, with Axar Patel named as the 12th man. Kohli and Iyer were instrumental in India’s batting success, while Shami and Chakravarthy shone with the ball.

From New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry earned their spots for their consistent performances. Ravindra and Phillips were key contributors with the bat, while Santner and Henry impressed with their all-round and bowling efforts.

Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai complete the line-up, showcasing the rising talent of Afghan cricket. Zadran’s solid batting and Omarzai’s all-round contributions were pivotal in Afghanistan’s campaign.

The absence of players from South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan has raised eyebrows, particularly as South Africa and Australia reached the semi-finals. Pakistan, the host nation, failed to win a single match in the tournament, which likely contributed to their exclusion.
