Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim said Bryan Mbeumo “delivered” on his first appearance for the club.

Mbeumo started for United in their final pre-season tour match against Everton in Atlanta, where they were denied victory in a 2-2 draw.

United completed the £71million signing of Mbeumo from Brentford two weeks ago but he did not figure in their first two tour matches against West Ham United in New Jersey and Bournemouth in Chicago as he was behind in pre-season training.

Mbeumo played for 45 minutes against Everton and impressed with his role in two attacking sequences, one of them eventually leading to the penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted.

Amorim played Mbeumo alongside Fernandes as one of the two No.10s in his 3-4-2-1 system, with fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha picked as the false nine.

“I think he played well,” Amorim said of Mbeumo. “He needs to understand the position, the movements. But I think the first touch, the way he connects with one touch, opened a lot of space.

“You can see that he’s not in the perfect condition physically, but he makes a lot of runs and that can stretch one team. So everything I was expecting he delivered.”

United have one more pre-season friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday before they start the Premier League season at home to Arsenal on August 17.
