Harry Maguire has sent a classy message on social media to Manchester United debutant Tyler Fredricson.

The Reds defender impressed in central defence alongside Victor Lindelof and Noussair Mazraoui but could do little to stop United suffering a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday. Pablo Sarabia’s second-half goal from a free-kick was enough to condemn Ruben Amorim’s side to a 15th Premier League loss of the season.

But, Fredricson represented a rare bright spot for Amorim’s men against Vitor Pereira’s side. The 20-year-old was drafted in with several stars rested after Thursday’s monumental victory over Lyon in the Europa League quarterfinals.

And fellow Reds centre-back Maguire, who scored the winner against Lyon, has now sent an eight-word message to Fredricson on his Instagram stories. “Congratulations @tyler.fredricson. Brilliant debut, well done mate,” he said.

United boss Amorim praised both Fredricson and left-wing-back Harry Amass for their performances against Wolves. The former Sporting boss added that he wants United to score more goals in order to give young players like Fredricson and Amass ‘better memories’ from their early Premier League days.

“I think he [Fredricson] did really well,” Amorim told Sky Sports post-match. “I think also Amass played really well. We need to score goals so that the kids have better memories from their first games.”

On United’s performance as a whole, he added: “If you look at the game, we were the better team, but in the end, it doesn’t matter because if we don’t score goals, nothing matters. In the end what counts is the result, especially in these kinds of moments.

“We create a lot of chances, we had a game, we control the game, we blocked some good players from the opponent and one set piece changes the game and that’s it. It’s really frustrating to end the game like this.”
