Google is rolling out a new update to its Find My Device app that lets users view the real-time locations of friends and family who share their location with them. As reported by 9to5Google, this update builds on the Android March feature drop and is gradually becoming available to more users.
One Map, Two Purposes
Previously, Google Maps allowed location sharing among friends and family. Now, the Find My Device app combines device tracking and people tracking in one place, making it more convenient for users. The app also shows locations of friends using Google Maps on iOS, expanding cross-platform visibility.
On Android, users will notice a new “People” tab in the Find My Device app. Tapping this tab displays the locations of contacts sharing their location with you. Another tab shows the people you’re sharing your location with, along with options to manage or update how long you want to share your location with them.
Inspired by Apple
With this update, Google’s Find My Device app interface closely resembles Apple’s Find My app. The new design includes a split-screen view—a map on top and a list of people or devices at the bottom, depending on which tab you select. This layout makes it easier to toggle between tracking lost devices and loved ones.
This update adds more utility to the Find My Device app, moving it beyond lost phones or gadgets and turning it into a central hub for personal location sharing and tracking.
