Golden Retriever Owner Brings Kitten Home, Introduction Doesn’t Go as Planned

A golden retriever has gone viral on TikTok for the adorable delay in realizing their owner had brought home a new friend—a kitten.

The pup’s owner, @miloandgigi, shared a clip of the laid-back dog lounging on the couch, seemingly oblivious to the tiny white-and-gray kitten scurrying around behind them. The text overlay reads: “Seeing how long it takes my golden retriever to realize I brought a kitty home.” Since being posted, the sweet interaction has received more than 181,000 likes and over 1.4 million views on TikTok.

As the kitten chases its tail and explores the space, the golden retriever remains completely unfazed—until, suddenly, the dog notices the newcomer and springs into action, tail wagging furiously. What follows is a heart-melting moment of playful chasing, with the tiny kitten appearing completely unbothered by the much-larger dog.

Golden retrievers are often well-suited to life with cats due to their easygoing nature. Petplan experts say that, because the breed is sociable and gentle, golden retrievers tend to get along well with felines, especially if they are introduced early and are happy around each other.

Introducing a dog to a new feline family member can take time and patience. The Animal Humane Society recommends starting slowly and creating separate spaces at first, using scent swapping, gradual introductions, and supervised interactions to ensure safety and comfort for both animals.

In this case, the introduction seemed to go off without a hitch—and TikTok users couldn’t get enough.

“The dog is like, so yeah we’re going to be friends and play all day everyday forever whether you like it or not, and you can run away, but I will just follow you,” said Kayla.

“Your kitten acting like that on his first day,” posted another user.

“My goldendoodle has loved our cat ever since she was a kitten! He gets on her nerves, but she still cuddles him for warmth in the cold months,” shared a third.

“I love how supremely unbothered the kitten is by the dog who is 10 x her size. she’s just living her best life,” read one comment.

“That kitten is like a pocket-size tornado,” added another.

“This is so cute but for everyone else just make sure your dogs aren’t cat aggressive before you introduce a dog to a kitten/cat like this,” commented one pet owner.
