A water park is undergoing a “full health and safety inspection” after the tragic death of a four-year-old girl.

Emergency services rushed to Waterworld in Stoke-on-Trent at around 4.20pm on August 4 where they found a girl in “critical condition”.

Sadly despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors, the girl died shortly after arriving at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Staffordshire Police confirmed.

Now, Stoke-on-Trent City Council has announced that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

In a statement issued on August 5, Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “The council’s environmental health team are working with the police and the privately-run venue to undertake a full health and safety investigation.”

The Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent Steve Watkins has expressed his condolances to the girl’s family in a statement, saying: “We were all devastated to hear of the death of a four-year-old girl at Waterworld.

“This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.”

Waterworld confirmed it would remain shut today out of respect to the family.

The water park posted a statement to its Facebook page on Monday, saying that the child was “found unconscious and treated on poolside”.

She received CPR from lifeguard and management teams in the lagoon area of the park at around 4.15pm, with staff calling the emergency services.

The statement added: “All other visitors were asked to quietly leave the pool out of respect for the rescue operation underway, and we would like to thank them for their support and collaboration.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of this young girl’s passing later this evening. All our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during these extremely difficult times.

“The authorities were immediately alerted and Waterworld is working closely and openly with them to precisely understand the circumstances of this tragic accident.”
