Former ‘SNL’ Host Shocks ‘The View’ With Her Story About An Audience Member’s Bold Question

Roseanne star Sara Gilbert was only 18 years old when she hosted Saturday Night Live — and the actress recently had a “full-circle” experience when she returned to Studio 8H for a taping with her daughter.

Gilbert appeared on this morning’s episode of The View, during which co-host Sara Haines asked what she remembered from her time hosting the sketch comedy series. Meanwhile, producers played a clip from a 1994 sketch starring Gilbert and Mike Myers.

“It was kind of amazing because I was a college freshman,” Gilbert said. “It was a cool thing to be like, to your roommates, ‘Hey, do you guys want to come to SNL?’ I’m so lucky that that happened.”

The Conners star, who has received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her role as Darlene Conner, hosted Saturday Night Live when Myers, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, David Spade and Rob Schneider were full-time cast members.

Despite getting to star alongside some of the SNL greats, not everyone was aware of Gilbert’s appearance on the show. The star learned as much when she recently went to a taping with her daughter during their trip to New York City.

“I’m taking one of my kids on a college tour while we’re here. We’re looking at different schools,” Gilbert began. “And she’s obsessed with SNL so it was her dream to go.”

“So we went and we watched in the audience and then one of the people in the audience next to me turned to me and said, ‘Have you ever been to a taping?’” she continued. “So I just said, ‘Yeah, I think so. A long time ago.’”

It sounds like someone needs to brush up on their SNL knowledge!

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
