Flamingos adorn TS Chanakya wetland in Mumbai | Mumbai News

Flamingos have once again returned to the TS Chanakya wetland in Nerul, much to the delight of residents and nature lovers. The pink birds, known for their beauty and synchronised movements, have become a yearly attraction in Navi Mumbai.

The flamingos migrate to Navi Mumbai during the winter from Gujarat and other regions, searching for food and a safe environment. This year, they arrived with the New Year with hundreds of birds wading through the wetland.

According to Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) officials, the expected number of birds have returned to the wetland.
“It is local migration as these birds come from Gujarat. Some birds are early migrants while some migrate late depending on the feeding conditions in their original habitat and it is their natural process,” said a BNHS official.

The return of the flamingos highlights the importance of protecting wetlands like TS Chanakya that are essential feeding grounds for migratory birds.
