It’s the first time Uniqlo has opened in Midlands and the announcement comes months after Brummies ‘begged’ the Bullring for a branch.

When it announced the new shop on its social media pages, the Bullring told followers: “STOP EVERYTHING. We just made your wishlist a reality.

“UNIQLO is coming to Bullring.”

In a statement to press, Birmingham was described as a ‘key strategic signing for Uniqlo’ given its ‘aligned with its younger, affluent demographic’.

In recent months, tens of thousands of young shoppers have flooded the Bullring for the launches of brands like Sephora, PureSeoul and the new SDMN shop from YouTube stars Sidemen.

The new Uniqlo shop will take up the busy spot where Zara used to be before it moved into the former Debenhams.

The huge unit is just by the iconic Bull statue at the shopping centre.

When it announced the new shop, a director at Hammerson – the company which owns the Bullring – said it ‘reflected the strength’ of the venue.

Director of leasing and commercialisation Paul O’Brien said: “Bullring continues to attract best-in-class global brands seeking a flagship presence in the region, reinforcing its position as the leading Midlands destination.

“Uniqlo is the latest brand to make a significant commitment to Bullring, reflecting the strength of our position, quality of the asset, and exceptional line-up of leading names in retail.”

Uniqlo’s COO, Alessandro Dudech, added: “Uniqlo continues to invest in the UK retail landscape, growing our footprint and e-commerce across the nation.

“Bringing the brand to the Midlands for the first time is a key strategic step for us, and Bullring’s prominent position in the UK’s second city made for the ideal location.”

Followers on social media have made their feelings clear on the latest announcement from the Bullring.

Thefoodieroma commented: “What a privilege it is to be a Brummie, constant levelling up.”

Akaur said: “OMGGG TOWN IN LEVELLING UPPP!” and Oipingpong added: “BEST MOVE EVER!!! WELL DONE MARKETING TEAM!”

An open date for the shop is yet to be revealed. We’ll bring you the latest as we get it.
