Firefighters quickly handle smoky fire in Bay Ward home

Ottawa Fire Services made quick work of a fire Saturday afternoon in a single-family home in the 2400 block of Georgina Drive in the city’s Bay Ward.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a homeowner reported a heavy haze in the basement of the residence.

Fire crews arriving at the scene confirmed smoke conditions and issued a call for additional resources. Teams moved a hose line inside the structure while crew members searched for any occupants, finding none inside.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the area of origin. It was declared under control at 2:26 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.

A fire investigator was assigned to determine the cause of the fire.
