Football fans are planning to search for a well-known Wigan Athletic supporter who has been missing since Wednesday.

Darren Orme has been a familiar face at Latics matches for many years. He was last seen at 6.30pm on March 5, on Beech Hill Lane, in Wigan. It’s believed he was at the Douglas Bank pub that evening.

On Sunday the WAFC Travel and Supporters Club is organising a search, which it said had been approved by Darren’s family. It will begin from The Brickmakers Arms, on Woodhouse Lane, at 9am.

In a post on X, the supporters club said: “Agreed with Darren’s family & Harry from the Brickmakers. If Darren does not return by Sat evening, we are going to co-ordinate a search meeting at 9am Sunday morning from the Brickmakers. Split into groups to walk the canal, Haigh Hall, parks, the valley etc, hopefully find our mate.”

In a later post on Saturday the club said Darren didn’t attend the match against Cambridge United, adding: “NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. We need to remain positive. Tomorrow morning 9am if you are able to give a few hours help us please.”

On Thursday night the Official Wigan Athletic Supporters Club said police were ‘scaling up’ their search for Darren. A spokesperson added: “He was last seen in the Dougie Bank pub [Wednesday] night and is not at home today or answering his phone.

“His phone does not have internet capability so he cannot access social media.”

Darren is described as being 6ft 3ins tall, of slim build and with short ginger hair. At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a navy blue Wigan Athletic jumper. He also wore blue jeans, blue trainers and a black gilet.

A GMP spokesperson said on Thursday: “Officers want to make sure he is safe and well.”
