After a freezing start to the week, temperatures are finally set to rise in Manchester – but they’ll be bringing rain and wind with it.

After highs of just five degrees on Monday (February 17), temperatures will hover around freezing overnight – though it will feel like -3, according to the Met Office.

But that is set to rise into the second half of the week. It will feel slightly warmer on Tuesday with highs of 6 degrees in the daytime.

The Met Office’s forecast predicted “a dry and often bright day for all” that would be “breezy but generally milder”, with “periods of hazy sunshine”.

The outlook for Wednesday to Friday, however, is more mixed. “Showery rain spreading east on Wednesday and feeling a bit milder,” the Met Office predicted.

“Much milder to end the week but unsettled and windy with periods of heavy rain and possible coastal gales.”

The mercury will reach highs of 13 degrees by Friday – but it will be accompanied by overcast skies, light showers and windspeeds of up to 16 miles an hour.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Tony Wisson, said: “Milder but unsettled conditions are moving in from the Atlantic later this week.

“As the week goes on, we’re set to experience wetter conditions with showers and bands of rain moving in from the Atlantic. Western hills will see the highest rainfall totals, with 75-100mm possible here, building up from Wednesday to Friday.

“With temperatures possibly as high as 16°C on Thursday and Friday, it will feel much more spring-like than of late.”

Looking ahead, the weekend is set to bring mild temperatures and sunny spells interspersed with showers, and gales in some coastal areas.
