Famous Malibu restaurant damaged in mudslides will reopen. Here's when

A popular Malibu hangout nearly destroyed by a massive mudslide that covered a portion of Pacific Coast Highway in February says it will be back.

“We are temporarily closed due to the mudslide that caused extensive damage. However, we anticipate reopening this summer once we complete the cleanup and repairs,” a Tuesday post to the Duke’s Malibu Instagram page stated.

The restaurant survived the Palisades Fire in January but was badly damaged when a powerful storm brought roughly two inches of rain to the Santa Monica/Pacific Palisades area a month later.

Images showed a significant amount of mud and debris had pushed through its doors and swept through the restaurant. Fire crews were sent to the location to help clean up some of the mess initially caused by the slide.

Amid some speculation the restaurant may not reopen, Tuesday’s post assured loyal customers that they would once again be able to dine in their favorite beachfront restaurant.

“We look forward to hiring back our employees and welcoming guests back in a few months. We can’t wait to see you then!” the post said.
