A Melbourne-based Canadian woman was left unimpressed after trying the classic Bubble O’Bill ice cream for the first time.
Expat Alexandra Tuohey posted a video of herself trying the Aussie childhood staple for the first time and giving a brutally honest assessment of the wildly popular confection.
‘My husband is Australian and I asked him to bring me home an ice cream and this is what he brought me,’ the mum-of-two explained in her TikTok video.
An unimpressed-looking Alexandra then proceeded to warily examine the colourful cowboy-shaped frozen dessert before tentatively eating the Bubble O’Bill’s signature bubblegum nose.
‘He said it was an Australian classic,’ she said with disgust, before taking a bite out of the blended strawberry, chocolate and caramel ice cream.
She concluded the video by saying ‘even the ice cream is sad’, mistakenly referring to the frozen dessert’s signature moustache as a frowning mouth.
Passionate fans quickly took to the comments to defend the classic Aussie treat.
‘Don’t dare disrespect bubble o bill [sic],’ one ranted.

Streets Australia have been manufacturing the Bubble O’Bill ice cream since the mid 1980s and it’s been a childhood classic ever since
Another added: ‘You can actually lose your visa for disrespecting an Australian icon.’
A separate commenter took issue with Alexandra’s incorrect assessment of the ice cream’s appearance.
‘He’s not sad. That’s his moustache,’ the person corrected.
Others were unsettled by the method in which Alexandra approached eating the much-loved ice cream.
‘What the heck?! You NEVER start with the nose, you ALWAYS finish with the gum. ALWAYS,’ insisted one person, adding a face-palm emoji.
The content creator shared the same video to Instagram, but on that platform received less outraged comments and more helpful suggestions for other alternative Australian ice creams on a stick that were worth trying.
‘You might want to dabble in a good old Golden Gaytime, that Aussie ice-cream might be more to your liking,’ suggested one reply.
Other popular ice creams such as Magnum, Cornetto and Paddle Pops were also suggested as a less-divisive cold sweet treat compared to the Bubble O’Bill.

The Bubble O’Bill ice-cream is manufactured by Streets Australia and was first launched in 1985.
The moulded ice cream on a stick resembles a cowboy and features a blend of three flavours: strawberry for the face, caramel for the moustache and eyes, and a chocolate hat.
The reverse side of the face features a layer of coated chocolate.
The frozen treat’s signature is its gumball in place of a nose, which comes in a variety of colours.
The Bubble O’Bill chocolate hat also features a distinct hole shape in the top, which is meant to resemble a bullet hole.
Interestingly, the Bubble O’Bill was first launched into the US market. However, it achieved greater success in Australia, where it continues to be available and remain popular.

In follow-up to the huge reaction from Australian viewers to her Bubble O’Bill video, Alexandra posted another Aussie ice cream video, this time of herself eating a Maxibon.
However, that video also earnt the ire of Aussie ice cream lovers, who insisted she’d eaten the Peters Ice Cream treat incorrectly because she didn’t start with the chocolate coated side.
‘You always leave the sandwich part to the end because it’s the best part!!!’ read one reply.
