Save a few bob in the back-to-school rush this summer and make use of the free uniform label printing service
The summer break may still be underway, but many parents will already be thinking about the back-to-school rush – and the price tag that comes with it. From school uniforms and lunchboxes to stationary and PE kits, it all adds up.
Nearly 40 per cent of parents are worried about the rising cost of getting their children ready for the new school year, according to a recent survey by online off-price retailer MandM, which polled 1,000 UK parents.
But as the countdown until the morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups resume, one of Glasgow’s biggest shopping centres is helping parents and carers get organised by offering a free uniform label service.
Silverburn Shopping Centre, in partnership with Be Uniform, is offering complimentary personalised label strips to iron on at home, perfect for keeping track of school shirts, jumpers, gym kits and jackets.
Returning for the second year in a row, and in a bid to battle lost property, the pop-up service will be available outside of Next on Saturday, August 9, from 9am – 7pm.
No appointment is required and while the labels are free, donations to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity are welcomed.
“We know the run-up to the new school term can be a busy and expensive time,” David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn, said.
“So, following the success of last year, we decided to bring back our free uniform label service at Silverburn. We’re committed to supporting our community wherever we can.
“From Flamingo Beach to practical services like this one, we’re always looking for ways to take the pressure off and offer a helping hand.
“Lost uniform is a common frustration for parents, so we hope this simple, but effective service saves both time and stress as families get ready for the new school year.”
It comes just over a month after luxury beauty retailer H beauty by Harrods officially opened its new Glasgow store at Silverburn in exciting news for hair and beauty enthusiasts.

With glamourous counters and displays, a knowledgeable team of beauty specialists ready to assist and convenient opening hours to boot, H Beauty Silverburn promises a “next level beauty experience in the west of Scotland”.
And speaking of Scots students, new figures have shown that just dropped today, August 5, have shown that a record number of young Scots have secured a spot at university.
Statistics released from Ucas show 17,350 17 and 18-year-olds will be admitted this year, compared to 16,650 last year. The number of those from the most deprived backgrounds is also at its highest, at 2,060.
In total, 31,850 applicants from Scotland were offered a place – a small decline on last year’s figure of 31,970 – as a result of a decline in mature student applications.
