The Red Sox acquired pitcher Garrett Crochet from the White Sox on Wednesday. As part of the deal, Boston traded over four prospects, including outfielder Braden Montgomery.

The 21-year-old joined MLB Network’s “Hot Stove” on Thursday to describe the “whirlwind of emotions.”

“It’s been crazy, just the whole past 24 hours has been wild,” said Montgomery. “It’s been exciting, obviously, but yeah, I don’t really know how to feel yet.”

He received a call while at the batting cage and was told a “unique situation presented itself.” The outfielder said it was an understandable decision as Boston continues to seek out high quality pitching during the offseason.

“I’m just excited,” Montgomery said. “It’s obviously early on in my pro career, so it’s weird to have movement like this.”

The No. 12 overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft was drafted in July. Chicago was one of the teams that was “highly interested” in him during the draft before he joined the Red Sox. A switch-hitter with explosive arm strength, Montgomery didn’t get the chance to don Boston’s uniform, but he’s now the White Sox’s No. 5 prospect.
