Former Emmerdale star Jurell Carter has spoken for the first time about the real fate of his character after leaving the show in September last year.

Fans of the ITV soap had many theories regarding Nate’s departure as he left the village for a new job in Shetland. Prior to him leaving, Nate was subjected to Cain Dingle’s fury as he believed Nate was making a pass at Moira.

It was Caleb Miligan who believed he saw the pair sharing a kiss, when the reality was that Moira was suffering from a seizure and fell into step-son Nate, who also mistakenly believed she had attempted to kiss him.

With Nate’s former-wife Tracy learning of the ‘betrayal’, she was quick to cut him out of her life for good. Heartbroken, Nate decided to wave goodbye to the Dales without so much as a teary goodbye from his fellow villagers.

There was then not trace of Nate after that, with only recently Tracy admitting he hasn’t been paying child support for their daughter, Frankie, and that she hasn’t been able to get in touch with him for months.

But as Emmerdale fans know, Amy Wyatt made a haunting discovery in the frozen lake she and her friends plunged into when their limo crashed on Valentine’s Day.

Amy ended up underneath the water as she fell through the ice after the crash, with those inside taking it in turns to attempt their escape to safety. As she was struggling to reach the surface she saw a body attached to chains floating in front of her..

After she was rescued by Tracy from the water, she was able to confirm the body was Nate’s, identifying him by the bracelet on his wrist being the same one he was wearing on the day of his exit, and matching Tracy’s as they were made by their little girl.

Unfortunately, it’s a secret that Amy has taken to the grave as she died in hospital hours after the accident, before she was able to tell anyone what she saw, even though she tried during her latest breaths to tell her husband Matty.

Now, after keeping his character’s fate a secret for all this time, actor Jurell has opened up about how he felt when he got told about Nate’s final storyline.

“Basically, I was told a little while beforehand about the plan for Nate. I had a meeting with Sophie Roper, one of the producers at Emmerdale, and she told me the storylines that would happen for my exit. It might sound cheesy, but I had goosebumps in the meeting,” he said in an interview with Digital Spy.

He went on: “So I knew about it a while ago. Ever since I heard, I’ve been excited to see it play out. As the audience still doesn’t know exactly how it’ll go from here, I’m excited for them to see it now.

“This is just the start of the unravelling. Amy has just passed away on the show and she knew that it was Nate down there in the lake. So obviously this is just the start of the audience getting to know what happened. I’m really excited for them to find out!”

But the big question on everyone’s lips is who is responsible for Nate’s death. When asked if he knows who killed Nate, the former soap star confirmed: “Yes, I know.”

Jurell added: “But I wouldn’t say anything because then it gives the storyline even more weight and power. When the unravelling does come about, it’s just going to be massive.”
